Vehicle diagnostics in Landsborough

Scan tools and experience to find the fault that is actually there, instead of replacing parts until the light goes out.

Scan tool plugged into a vehicle, reading fault codes from the control units

A code tells you where to look. It does not tell you what is broken.

Plugging in a scan tool gives you a fault code, and a code is a starting point rather than an answer. A code for an oxygen sensor can be the sensor, the wiring to it, or an engine running badly for a reason that has nothing to do with the sensor at all.

The work is in testing the circuit, the component and the mechanical side to find which one is genuinely at fault. That is the difference between a repair and an expensive guess.

  • Fault code scanning

Engine, and where the vehicle supports it, transmission, ABS and body systems.

  • Warning light diagnosis

Engine light, ABS, traction and airbag lights traced back to what is actually causing them.

  • Electrical fault finding

Intermittent faults, things that stopped working and accessories that drain the battery overnight.

  • Charging and starting tests

Battery, alternator and starter checked, because a weak supply causes faults that look like something else.

  • A plain explanation

What we found, what it means and what happens if you leave it. In words, not codes.

  • Quoted before repairs

You get the diagnosis and a price, and you decide whether the repair goes ahead.

What that light on the dash means

A steady engine light means the car has logged a fault and wants it looked at. It is not usually an emergency, but it does not go away on its own and it can quietly cost you fuel and, in time, an expensive part.

A flashing engine light is different. It generally means a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter within minutes. Stop somewhere safe, and ring us rather than driving it in.

Why we do not just clear the code

Clearing a code turns the light off and changes nothing. The fault is still there, the light comes back, and the only thing that has happened is that we have thrown away the information stored with the code.

We read the codes and the live data first, then test. It takes longer than a reset and it is the only way to give you an answer worth paying for.

Locals keep coming back for a reason.

Vehicle diagnostics, questions we get asked.

  • If the light is steady, the car is usually safe to drive to us, but do not leave it for weeks. If the light is flashing, that generally means a misfire that can damage the exhaust system, so stop somewhere safe and call us on (07) 5494 8883.
